I often ponder what is happening to the world as I knew it growing up. Twenty years ago the world was safe and we could play outside with our friends throughout the neighborhood from sun up to sun down. I fondly remember getting up and saying "I'll see you later" as I headed out the door. I would grab my bike and off I'd go to find my friends for a day of adventure and fun. We would start by rounding everyone up and riding for hours. We would often stop for a quick 3 on 3 basketball game. Girls against the guys and of course us girls would cream the guys. Jumping back on our bikes to go to the creek and hike through the woods. Oh the thrill of getting caught down in that creek made the hike worth every moment. At some point we'd head to someone's house for a quick lunch or snack and off we'd go again. Our parents never worried because they knew we were all together and out would be home before the street light hit our faces.
Today you can't let your children go and play in the neighborhood. There is too much evil abounding around every corner now. I question if it is more accepted by society that evil co-exists right here with us or is it more noticeable than it once was. I have three children on the brink of being teenagers and it saddens me that I am not able to allow them the freedom I had playing with friends. Today you are not even able to trust they will be safe at your town mall.
What can be done to change the world we live in? Can it be changed? Leave your thoughts and comments for me.
